France: WWII

The first site we stopped at was Pointe du Hoc, where 225 US Rangers climbed 100 foot cliffs into enemy fire. Only 90 of the 225 men who started the climb made it to the top. They went on to seize the German artillery position on the clifftop and hold it against strong counterattacks. The original fortifications and bomb craters are still there.

We then went to Omaha Beach, and to the American Cemetary, where there was a ceremony honoring the relatives of the passengers who had been involved in D-Day.

After that, we made another stop but I don't know where.
