I was born and raised in NYC. I went to College in NYC. I work in NYC.
Even though I've lived now in NJ for over 12 years, when I get the question "Where are you from?" the answer is always "New York".
This is usually followed by "Oh, where in New York do you live?" and I say "I live in Jersey. I'm FROM New York!!
No matter where I'm living, NYC is home.
