Iran's Disputed Election
Following friday June 22ND Presidential Election in IRAN, Tehran and other cities have seen the largest street protests and rioting since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Supporters of reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, upset at their announced loss and suspicions of voter fraud, took to the streets both peacefully and, in some cases, violently to vent their frustrations. Iranian security forces and hardline volunteer militia members responded with force and arrests, attempting to stamp out the protests.

This painting is inspired by the struggle of the Iranian people and relates the fact that you may imprison the body but never the mind and soul of a people. The moving 'towards the light', (the title of one of my brother Johnny's songs by the way) is an indication to all dictators that one day the truth will be known and the culprits will be seen for what they are. It is dedicated to the men women and children of Iran and other places in the world where intolerence is the norm. Secondly and particularly it is dedicated to those who have a different vision of love and who suffer capital punishment for the most beautiful of feelings.

Spirit of Iran

A young man lies in prison cell
The darkness is broken by coming day
He stirs his aching body
Grabs the wall and pulls himself upwards
Towards the light.

His eyes gleam in the brightness
His soul warms in the day
His crime, a folly, to those who hold him
His soul takes flight leaving his prison behind
Towards the light.

He sees the madness of his tormentors
He see the prison they are in
They cannot fly but rest attached to dogmas
that hold them fast and never let them fly
Towards the light.

Who is in prison? No, not he......

they also start to decrease internet speed and filter the sites and control and hear to our private calling and phones and they also put many camera in street like above new street lamps upon the street to control people. I hate of Ahmadinejad and Iranian navy bosses who support him , ahmadinejad is a real satan , he must go to the hell , I am from Mazandaran and most of my friends and mazandaranian people hate of ahmadinejad special from the time they cut off our Gas in to winter 2008.

also we hate of Khamenehi , he is anti - islam and anti - humanity.

May freedom come for you all in Iran.I live in the USA and protest are always one place or another in the country but we are not beaten or killed for expressing out freedom.Freedom of Speech should be for everyone.To the people of Iran, don't give up and let your voice be heard! Sooner or later this suppresive government will be toppled.The world around you is watching this and a government like this CAN NOT have nuclear weapons.Another country will step in soon and when they do, that would be the Iran peoples best chance to topple this government. Sorry, I was so captures by the pictures, that I didn’t realize immediately that you honestly stated they were not taken by you, but collected from other web sites.
The impact of the images is not diminished of course, but maybe it’s not the case to speak of photo-journalism in a strict way.
It was really interesting to see the images you have collected.

It takes a lot of guts to even carry a camera, much less use one, in an environment such as this. But without brave souls such as these the world would never know what really happens behind the curtains of brutal oppressions. People everywhere deserve to live free lives. Photography can often ensure that it happens because pictures simply don't lie.
