Baby owl.

Yesterday I went on a daylong photo shoot with a friend. We spent part of the afternoon roaming around in farm country. We stopped along a road to take pictures of a herd of super interesting goats. While stopped there the owner of the farm came out to collect his mail and we went over to chat and ask permission to come onto his property so we could get a better angle to continue photographing the goats. No problem he said. We all got to chatting about things including photography. All of a sudden he said follow me I have something you should look at and might want to photograph. We followed him into an old barn. Next we found ourselves climbing way up into near the rafters using a ladder and later hay bales. We ended up in a dark area of the top of the barn. He said look there in the corner. We saw an indistinct shape and he said it was a baby barn owl. He said the mother was around and still feeding it. It was a very difficult position to focus and shoot in being balanced on a hay bale in the air in near dark. But using flash, trial and error. We managed to take some representative shots. Here is a headshot I think shows this elusive little owl chick. You can see it still has it’s baby down feathers. Looks like cotton to me. It took some doing to get back down but to my friend and I it was really worth it. Not just to take a picture but to see in real life this wonderful creature.

What a good story (and effort!) Makes me appreciate your pic of this cutie even more. You seem to have lots of fun adventures with your camera :)
