This is from my vacation to the Solomon Islands, July-October 2003.
During my stay i visited most of the northern coast of Guadalcanal, as well as an extensive look at Western Province, including Kolambangara, New Georgia, Rannonga, Ghizo and a brief trip to Vella Lavella.
"Unfortunately", i took too much of a liking to Ghizo so i overspent my time there. Next time i'm definately visitng Rennell and Isabel. I'd love Temotu as well.

hi there is an island not in the ghizo area but in the marovo lagoon where the owner want to lease it to any invester.Its location is in the cetre of the Marovo lagoon and best for tourism or other related business. Vince, If you take away luxury activities like diving and organized tours, it's possible to do the Solomons very cheap. I myself am a diving fanatic, so i spent quite a few SBD on diving around the country. The plane ticket itself is possible to grab from a cheap-flights place in Brisbane for not much, not sure of the excact price nowedays. Getting around the Solomons is all about not taking planes etc. unless strictly necassary, go by boat, hitchhike and stay overnight in villages, it's half the trip and much more fun as you meet so many good people. I would give the place about half a year to recover from the tsunami before you venture there as a backpacker, unless you are interested in taking part to help the country out. The place needs as much hands on deck as possible these times...

My thoughts go out to the victims of the tsunami that hit Gizo and the rest of the SI on April 2. I'd never have thought that a place i have such good memories from would be swept away by a giant wave.

Hey there... I have an odd question; maybe someone can answer. I am looking for a small island or "untouched" costal area, where i can settle for 3-4 month or so in a tent. On my own. It's s part of my plan to stress off from the hectic daily western life. Is it possible / legal to find a place of my "own" (loan) to settle down a bit? (i am a nature lover and would leave the place as it was). Anyone have an idea? I read abit about the Solomon Islands, specifically the islets around Ghizo... Any help would be great... thanks! Tetaaka, I'm afraid my knowledge of Solomon Islands policy on real estate is nil. If i'm not mistaken only traditional landowners can own land, however foreigners can lease for a period of time. As you're a Solomon Islands national i presume that your traditional tribe holds land somewhere in the country, however don't take my word for this. I advise you to get in touch with Mr. Danny Kennedy at http://www.divegizo.com and ask him for advice. He's an American, and later a Solomon Islander, who's been running a Dive operation in the country since the 80's and knows the place inside out. He can give you good information and knows alot of folks in the country. Good luck to you! Marcus

hey marcus, i was born on Ghizo and now live in the US. im still a citizen of the solomons and the US. i want to leave the u.s. and move back to the solomons. my question is, is there real estate there to buy if ones a citizen?? please reply, tetaake.

I was in Nyiami village from the 10th to 13th April 2006. The people there were friendly and happy. A nice little village. Planning to go there again sometimes in the future.
