The missing trees on the other side of the dam happened in the fall of 2009. Rains caused a rock slide and U.S. Highway 64 was closed for 9 months as they cut the mountain back and secured it from collapsing further. The detour around the slide created an extra 1.5 hour trip between Cleveland Tennessee and Blue Ridge Georgia.
