East Bound

Looking east bound down the tracks. A side track splits off the line. This is how they got the heavy equipment into the powerhouse. The side track no longer connects to the main track. This line is now used for a scenic train ride from Etowah Tennessee to Copperhill Tennessee. The line has a loop to gain/loss 1400 feet of altitude. Linda and I are going back and take a trip to the loop section of the tracks. No road leads to the loop, you have to walk about a mile to get to it.

This is one of the best train rides in the nation, and cheap compared to most tourist rail trips. In the summer the Bald Mountain loop train runs Sundays. Tickets at Etowah Depot. Buses leave for the train about 12:30 pm. Saturdays the train runs all the way to Copperhill. You need to take the train!
