November 24, 2007. A record 464 finishers. This year's course was shortened to about 9K due to trail construction, but the Puddle (a.k.a. swamp) was in fine form this year despite some dry weather leading up. Knee-deep water combined with a layer of ice ensured a calf-numbing experience, not to mention the putrid odour that was stirred from the depths. Puddle stories included Sylvan 'the Icebreaker' Smyth running ahead to soften the 50m stretch for the leaders, a man taking a dive and having to spit out a mouthful of swampwater, my camera getting a good spraying early on, and a girl's Ipod dragging through the water.
