In late April my wife sprung a fantastic surprise on me and took us both to Venice for a 4 day break. It has been six years since we were last there and it was wonderful to re-new our acquaintance with this most romantic of cities.

As this was our fourth visit to Venice we decided to avoid all the obvious tourist places, get off the beaten track and try and get under the skin of city. Thanks to my wife's great map reading we were able to wander down narrow alley-ways and discover quite piazzas, all just a stone-throw away from the crowds. It was simply wonderful.

We also took the vaporatto out to the Lido, a place I never had a desire to visit, but once there I thoroughly enjoyed it. So totally different to Venice.
