Covadonga is a famous place in Asturias because one of the most important battles of its hisroty took place here. King Pelayo with a group of asturian people fought to expel the Muslims and defeated them. That was peninsula the beginning of what is called “ la Reconquista”, which finished centuries later.It is the most famous religious site in Asturias, but it is also a fantastic place surrounded by big mountains.The most beautiful scenery there is that of the lakes , which are very famous in all world and people from all countries visit them every year.Covadonga is a symbol for asturian people, it´s said that in the cave Pelayo t took shelter.In the picture is the fantastic Covadonga´s church : It was completed in 1901.The Church was designed by Roberto Frassinelli and it was built by Federico Aparici.The pink color is because it´s made of the stone from this mountain.The church is romanesque style, mixed with other styles, like the towers, mixed with Italian elements on the topThis Church was inaugurated by Alfonso XII. Imagine ,if you can ,how impressive the battle was in this place in the year 716.
