The cathedral of Strasbourg stands on a large paved square since the Middle Ages. The spire and the facade are the most remarkable elements of the cathedral.
The arrow spire, "real stone tiara" (V.Hugo), 142 m high, made Notre-Dame of Strasbourg the highest building of the Christendom until the XIXth century. It is a chef d'oeuvre of lightness, an impressive artwork of aerial carvings.
The main facade, made of pink sandstone, is of a fantastic ornamental wealth.
The impression of elegance comes from the inspiration of one of the architects of the Gothic cathedral.
The ornaments were carved with unequaled grace and lightness.
