Coop Raising in Spring of 2009

Thanks to the generous help of some good friends, without whom I couldn't have done this, a coop was constructed in my wee back yard to accommodate a gang of fancy little egg laying pet chickens I've raised from a day or two old.

That has to be the spiffiest lookin chicken coop I've ever seen! Looks like you had a lot of fun putting it together too! I just wish I could have been there to help!!

Hi Margaret,
Just opened the forward Rich sent me about your coop. How exciting is that? I remember growing up during the war (the big one) and a neighbor had a coop. We traded veggies we grew for eggs she gathered. AND THIS WAS IN NEW YORK CITY!
So happy to see Rich at work----and of course very proud of him being able to plan and execute huge additions to a hospital and also a cozy, comfy coop for your gals and you . Building my decorative fence will be next.
Hope to see you and the coop when I visit Portland again.

The coop has the colors of the Southwest and with the cupboard doors, a folk art touch!
You can watch all their antics thru the window. Well thought out and a good looking crew.

This is so eggsiting! I don't want to eggsagerate, but I'm eggstremely happy for you. About the chicken tricks your dad mentioned . . . I've heard of the disappearing chicken . . . . know what happened? It got poached.

Just lovely! Dimensions and floor plan? Ah, the pleasures of design!
Our 14 vestal versions are enjoying their mini-pasture (only 120' perimeter) inside the new electric fence (Permanet). I still lock them up at night (3 in the 4x8 and 11 in the 8x8- their choice) and so far, predators have not scored. Egg production has been very close to one a day per bird - many days in a row give 14.
They get on well together and seem to be in excellent condition.
A few of them are accomplished flyers and can top the fence but then get forlorn when separated from their sisters and their home place and ask to be put back in at dusk. They are like the girls from St. Trinian's and like to play tricks.
