My aunt and my father were twins....
I find these pictures somehow very melancholy.
They were taken separately in the same year, but I like putting them side by side...
My aunt died when she was 22.
My father is now nearly 89 years old.
Yes, in those days it was the style to not 'look happy', god forbid. Reminds me of pics of my old family, mother's side, from 1800's in Grubville, Missouri, USA. I put on a 60th birthday party at a sort of fancy restaurant in Berkeley for my sister. For it, I culled old photos and scanned them to print for a big posterborard exhibit. One showed the family all lined up in a row, customary for that time, and they all looked like ready to die in the next minute. I caption'ed it: 'Pass The Prozac'.
