Encomium of Banality ( scenes from Nyon)

I wonder where banality deepens more its solid roots, either in a dark and ambitious pond of compulsory search for presumed breaking innovation, or in a quiet little lake of honest , nice and gentle commonplaces.
I also wonder who decides what can be considered a cliché and the parameters for that.
I have not any already made answer to offer, luckily.

All what can offer here is a series of unpretentious photos which show my daily environment.
A tribute to my small town with tenderness and ironical complicity.

I try to earn a living on a school here in Maastricht. Not as a teacher, but managing facilities. A few years ago, there was a young female teacher with whom I talked quite a lot. She got married, left and I never heard of her again. About a week ago, some other friends talked me into Facebook. I did. And what do you know, last saturday she mailed me within Facebook. She's living in Nyon now. I gave her the address of this gallery. She liked it very much! Nyon is one of my favorite Swiss places. I was there about 10 years ago and loved it. Does the little train still run? The thumbnails look like paintings and I do not like that distorting of photos. But, when I open one it is a lovely photo. Each one is lovely.

What to say? First you conquered me with a quote from a Romanian. :) Then I thought of the famous work of Erasmus, Moriae Encomium that inspired you and I think your gallery is simply wonderful: after all, what bigger "folly" than enjoying our normal lives and seeing the beauty around us, which is at hand and so easy to be seen, but not so easy to be discovered, in order to be seen? In this tricky times when we are persuaded that our lives are banal and we have to search beauty and dynamism thousands kilometers away or going for extreme adrenaline experiences, your gallery comes to show we have to search for the beauty inside us and to reflect it on the things we touch and we live. Your folly gets a vote from an irremediable fool. Brava!

Every good photographer knows how to create optical illusion. You know how to create word illusion. I guess Ionesco referred to the emptiness which... fills a conversation when people, instead of saying what's in their mind, grasp the first meaningless thing that comes, weather, cars... Whereas you look for beauty in your immediate surroundings (which you call "banality"), & searching beauty is never banality...
