Hi dude,

Sorry for replying so late.

Regarding the 80-400, it is slow compared to other AF-S lenses. On a good body like the D300 it is OK for capturing slower birds. You will need to predict where the bird is heading and wait until it locks its focus.

I have good experience with it while trying my new D4. This lens performs best at around F9/10 so the high ISO capability of the D4 certainly helps!
