Amboise is located on the Loire River at the historic best place to ford the river. It's a small town but has a lot of history and many interesting things to see.
The town is incredibly charming even if a bit touristy. It is dominated by the castle which is built on the site of a fort constructed by the Gauls. The present castle was built by Louis XII at the beginning of the 16-th century. Other sights in town are the the Church of St. Denis, which was founded in the 4-th century, and the local wine makers tasting in the bottom of the castle.
The weather in late March was not the best. May and June is considered the best time to come although any time during the summer should be good.
