H'MONG VILLAGE in NAN, THAILAND: A Treasury of Memories

I went to Nan, Thailand last April 2004 for a Community Service. I developed deeper love for children photography because of the countless souls peering back at me, "begging" me to be noticed.

I am sharing to you all these many jewels of Nan, Thailand.

My wife and I visited the Chanvae Nan area last month (Nov 06). It's a lovely region with lots of mountains. We visited several Hmong villages. Many of them are very poor. Our hearts cry out to them, and wish we could help them. You have some nice pictures here. Next time you're there, if you can, please take some pictures of the their homes and maybe some of the activities that they do. This will at least give your readers (viewers) some idea of the lives there.

I work outside Pattay, and stumbled upon your side while searching my girlfriends home town in Nan. The pictures are indeed priceless. Any chances of getting copies of the originals of the 3 dolls, button eyes or porcelain? Great work Tom D

hi manny, I found your photo via trek web site. You have a great collection of photos here. I'm a beginner in photography that shoots mainly black and white but really appreciated your work. I would like to ask you the Palong village you went to where about is it exactly and also the village in Nan you visited? I was recntly on a trip in Mae Hong Sorn (originally planning to take photograph for an assignment for school.) but ended up teaching voluntarily in one of the school in Pai (did took a few photos in the process. Your photos of the Yunan province in China really made me want to go there. Are there any good information on the net regarding travelling in that province? Keep posting! kind regards, Miti

Hey, your photogrpahs are fab! I was in Nan this year living in Santisuk village (in Waingsa) on a GAP year and it is more like home to me than Scotland. It's such a special place and i can't believe other westerners actually go there! i saw about two thw whole time i was there! ; ) i like it that way...it's an amazing place! Looking at those pictures...i want to go home!!!! haha

Outstanding, you have a great connection with your subjects. The character that you capture in the young girl featured in 'Siblings 02', 'Checky Smile' and 'Three H'mong Dolls' is priceless. The young rascals featured in 'Youthfulness', and the wise beyond his years look of the 'Son of Light' boy. All are truly excellent.

Very good collection of nice portrait and I did not know that you were in Nan that long period.Hope you remenber me ,I was with Montree and join yours trip to Chiengrai recently.(I was behind -King red hat soldiers ).Now you knew who I am and I also have my galleries in pbase.See you on 9/01/2004.

Now, children...yes manuel, you are one of those human beings who are attracted by children. But that wouldn't be nothing if children weren't attracted back to you. There is such an harmony between you and your subjects. Your photographs and mainly your close portraits are revealing of a sensitiveness which is out of commun, and certainly filled with LIFE. Beautiful photographs.
