I've always wanted to visit Laos and after looking through these images I think I'm going to have to go there ASAP. For 3 days you took quite a number of excellent shots. As a whole each image links to the other making this more of a story in itself than a travel gallery. Well done, Manny!

Manuel, you are a remarkable photographer. For a three day visit, you accomplished a great deal. You were able to get these people to trust you enough to open themselves to your camera. And you did well by them -- these images are rich in content. They overflow with respect, dignity, and beauty. In your comment on my own gallery discussing portraiture, you said you feel you often did not supply enough context for meaning. I think you are being too hard on yourself. Most of these are excellent travel portraits, because they go beyond description to tell us how these people live, how they feel, and ultimately, who they are. And context has played a major role in many of them. (I've noted where, and how, under some of your individual images.) I am going to spend a couple of weeks shooting in Laos this January, and I only hope that I can be as fortunate, skillful, and effective as you were in conveying the essence of the Lao people through photographs.
