The sedated colour in everything but the subject really brings her out. The pose is a little too artificial but it really helps highlight her amazing wardrobe.

I've had to come back to this fabulous image as I have just realised what the style reminds me of: an old postcard which has been coloured -- I am uncertain as to how the originals were made, but they had a similar type of colouring to this image -- which is, as Michael rightly says, exquisite
Hi Alastair. I had two layers, one colored and the other, the desaturated version. Withe the BW on top, I used opacity to reveal a bit of color. To get more colors in some areas, I create a layer mask and bruh off those areas to reveal the colors (opacity of the brush adjusted accordingly).
