Lime Kiln built in the 1800s , 20 ft wide X 40 ft tall , the seam up the middle of the tower was on all four sides to allow for expansion from the heat. The towers were built of limestone and lined with fire brick from St.Louis, about 40 mile away , lime stone was loaded in the top and wood fires were built in fire boxes on each side, heat reaching 800 deg f. turned the limestone to powder, the lime powder was removed by shovel from the port shown. The lime was used for mortar.
