The builders of Tantamayo represent one of the oldest cultures in Peru, evolving over hundreds of years and reaching high levels of social and technological complexity. They were capable of building not one but dozens of buildings of up to six floors, with interior spiral staircases, something the Incas did not want - or were unable to copy. The citadels, temples, palaces and fortresses of the Yaros are highly spectacular and their enigma still remains today.
