Last Orders

Dundalk publican Brian McEntegart is preparing to pull his last pint on
Saturday night when he retires from running the landmark Park St pub which has been in his family since 1920.
I had to push myself way out of my comfort zone to ask him if I could take a couple of photos before he calls time for the last time, but I knew that if I didn't I'd miss recording a piece of local history.

I do know exactly how you feel; I'm not comfortable with asking people to shoot them either. But I agree with your sentiment; as a journo it's your calling in life to capture this kind of history. This is very well framed; just enough detail in the background to tell what it is but not enough to be distracting and the mono gives it a historical air. I'd guess from your comment that there are no further members of the family to take the hotel on. 92 years; how the world has changed since they started up there...

Great for you! I've skipped photos at times when I was out of my comfort zone too.
You did a fantastic job with this portrait.

I'm so glad you stepped outside your comfort zone for this. It is character 100%.

nicely done, and so sympathetic a character...it would have been a pleasure to buy a pint of plain from this gentle-looking man..

It's a wonderful portrait of a man I'm sure has led an interesting life. It shows in his face. Wonderful in black and white. V.

The bar makes the perfect backdrop for this portrait. Really great work.
I hope he doesnt miss the pub too much and is able to enjoy retirement.
