Empty Berths

There was little activity when I went down to Dundalk port this afternoon.
The port company has been folded by order of the Minister amidst allegations of mismanagement and Dublin Port Company has been charged with looking after the port's business.
Today it was announced that the few remaining workers are to be made redundant. One worker I spoke to said they were devastated by the news.

this rusty bollard tells the story too..classic case as the managers mess up, and the workers pay the price..V

It is a sad story and a sad sight. Shipping is still not doing well. That being said you managed a fine shot of the empty port. Great point of view and a wonderful sky.

Understandable; new dock work (which is generally pretty well paid, at least down here) is probably going to be hard to come by with the contraction in trade, particularly in countries in the Euro zone (or parts of it). Our unemployment rate is quite low but consumer confidence is in the bin; part of the reason is that the unemployment rate is rubbish and doesn't take into account people losing relatively well paid jobs like that and having to eke out an existence in casual or part time employment.
I like the angle that you've put on this one; it tells the story just by leading off to the empty dock.

That's a shame. An empty harbour is something of a sad sight.
