The Unmentionable in Pursuit of the Inedible

I'm inclined to agree with Oscar Wilde's succinct description of
hunting although I have to admit that it's a colourful scene
and one which delights tourists.
This wasn't my planned photo for today (that will wait for another day)
but when I heard the clattering of hooves on the road, I just had time
to run upstairs , grab the camera and point it out the window.
Unfortunately the branches from the overgrown buddleia partly
obstructed my view.

Actually I think that the buddleia branches work well enough here; it forms something of a frame and makes it seem like the hunters are emerging from it. A very earthy palette with all the browns and greens.

Love the colours in this photo, all seem to compliment each other - well spotted! Tally ho!

A marvelous grap shot.

I'm a hunter myself, but do all of my shooting with cameras. I do like this shot of the hunters with their dogs. Very nice perspective and tones. "V"

I agree on hunting, but this is a very nice image! V

Great shot Mairead...I too hope they didnt get the fox...I hate this kind of thing...BV
Tom LeRoy07-Mar-2011 15:46
Very good capture of the action and I truly hope that they didn't catch anything alive! V!

I guess traditions live on strongly...the more things change the more
they want to stay the same. V

A lovely scene none the less. V

Very nice Mairead.

I like the branches in the foreground, it gives the viewer an feeling of peering through the brush to see the hunt. A voyeur view. The horses and hounds are wonderful!! V

You did a great job catching this shot. I have to agree with you...I'm not a fan of hunting.

Its a great quick shot of a controversial subject. v

I am with you. All kinds of murderers may wear fancy costumes. A beautiful shot, none the less. BV

Well seen and captured, whenever I try a picture in a hurry it never works.
Johnny JAG06-Mar-2011 20:59
It's a great grab shot of your unmentionables.
David Hobbs06-Mar-2011 20:06
For a quick grab, this is a very nice image. I understood that they don't actually use foxes anymore. Is that right?
Doug Cruden06-Mar-2011 19:42
Mmmm...I think I said what I think about this the last time you posted a hunt photo....completely agree with Kevin & David.. Can't deny the colourfulness and tourist-hook though! Good grab shot Mairead

Very nice Mairead.
I have yet to get a few shots of a hunt.

I see they try to blend in to the scenery over your way, not the glaring red we get!
Kevin Chester06-Mar-2011 18:48
Tally ho! Hope Mr Fox slipped their slippery net. They don't understand that rifles are for pest control , not dogs ripping the poor things to pieces. But your right , its a colourful sight
globalgadabout06-Mar-2011 18:03
is it fox they are after?...the latent predatory instincts in all of us are laid bare by the privileged classes...why can't they just go for a afternoon ride without having to harry and kill as well...sharp capture Mairead...V

It is a cool sight!
