Faking it......

....or opening Pandora's Box
Recently I've been feeling a bit of a fake or a fraud. I'm finding it a real struggle
to come up with an image, any image, for my PAD, which I feel highlights my
lack of skill as a photographer. There are photographers on pbase who can make
anything look good but unfortunately I'm not one of them.
This bracelet is a bit of a fake too. Sure it's pretty and it holds sentimental value
for me as many of the charms were given to me as gifts while others were bought
on holidays. There is a market leader in this type of bracelet but that brand of charms
are expensive. So when I found some'compatible' charms for a couple of Euro in a market
in Barcelona I decided to buy a few of the colourful glass ones. Once back home,
I bought a silver bracelet and slowly began to build up a collection of charms,
none as cheap as those from the San Antonio market but cheaper than the real thing.
Only one of my charms is a genuine Pandora charm but I doubt if the casual observer
could tell the difference although the sharp-eyed looking at this picture might notice a
bit of tarnish on one of the glass beads.

There is nothing fake about this beautiful bracelet....my theory is just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good...take Paris Hilton for an example ;)

As for the actual shot, I think it's beautifully composed & the colours are wonderful !!!

Yes, the value of your bracelet is in the making and enjoyment, and a very good shot of it, too. V

Well, I always enjoyed your photos -and do enjoy this- and stories so much! So don't be so hard on yourself, Mairead... But I know the feeling you are talking of, and then I have to tell myself that there will be days with better inspiration, creativity and skills... and they will come, for sure!

It's positively brilliant how you tied your feelings of frustration into the construction of the bracelet and made such an interesting story of it. Accompanied by a beautiful photo on a nice background, nicely lighted, wonderfully detailed. An impressive presentation!

No faking in this shot: it's lovely, with excellent use of focus and shallow DOF, and a really interesting and honest narrative to accompany it.-v-

yet surely the Barcelona charms would hold associations...and the bracelet you have designed yourself..it's a grand illustration to your ruminations..a bit of doubt can be healthy...that's how we move forward...reflecting on what we've done can show the way to what we'll do next...the constant flux can be draining...yet has to be faced up to with a sharp eye

Don't be so hard on yourself Mairead. I think you have a great eye and fine skill set that shows in your work. Keep doing what your doing, and you'll find inspriation soon. As for the bracelet, it's unique and quite pretty. Then again, it's not important what we think of it. If you love it and it makes you smile, then that's all that's important. Ditto for your camera work. ;-)

Oh, I always enjoy your photo offerings! You will feel much better about things when the spring comes and you will have natures bounty to photograph (in the daylight!!! LOL) Very very pretty bracelet and the photo is very good!

I've always marveled at how you always manage to come up with such great images and stories every day. This is another good one. A pretty bracelet with wonderful intricate detail. ~V~

I've never been all that much into wearing jewelry. This is a nice job on this bracelet.

Its a beautiful shot and a really pretty bracelet Mairead....Used to always want gold,silver...the real stuff...but now i am happy with what i like the look of and after all what counts is not the cost but that it gives us pleasure when we look at it....BV
