This to me is a pleasant scene. I love autumn so I find this image of the morning sunshine
on the fallen leaves in St Helena's Park pleasing.
Yet talking to a local councillor during the tea break at this morning's council meeting, we
ended up discussing the idea of how our own views alter our perceptions of images. He admitted
that he hates autumn as it heralds the long dark cold days of winter, so no autumn scene
would be pleasing to him. He plants hundreds of daffodils bulbs around his house so that
these messengers of spring bring him good cheer at the end of winter.
I, on the other hand, have always loved autumn. It's the most colourful of all the seasons
and one that rarely disappoints. In Ireland at any rate, summer is seldom what we yearn for, and
winters, if not harsh, are dull and miserable, and often encroach on spring. So it's safe to say
that autumn is my favourite season as I look forward to hibernating with books and music
over the winter.
