This is the Willis organ in St Patrick's Cathedral in Dundalk, which was the venue
recital by The Hilliard Ensemble from New York on Thursday night. They are widely regarded as one of the
best vocal groups in the world, specialising in sacred music. They had the most amazing voices,
but to be honest it wasn't really our cup of tea.
Their visit was thanks to the energies of the couple behind the Louth Contemporary Music Society. Having moved
to Dundalk, they missed being able to see top class musicians and decided to set about inviting some of the leading
figures in contemporary music to Dundalk. Their passion for music has resulted in people like Philip Glass, Terry Riley,
Arvo Part, Joanna MacGregor and Kronos Quartet and Wu Man performing in town, as well as composing specially commissioned pieces.
