Gallán cloiche : A Standing Stone with Ogham Inscriptions

This was one of a small collection of Ogham Stones in the Dingle Peninsula. Lord Ventry lifted a number of them and installed them in the gardens of his residence just outside the town of Dingle. This residence is now the school Coláiste Íde. The picture here shows the solitary remaining stone in its original site by the sea.
Further information on standing stones and the ancient script Ogham can be found here: http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/pillarstones2.htm

Thank you Máire for showing us a piece of Irish history!

'Lifted' having multiple meanings here. I agree with northstar, no humility or respect for history.

You have to admire the nerve of these lords. "I'll just remove a 5000 year old structure and stick it in my garden"
