Dirty

The venerable Racor Turbine fuel filters have pretty much become the marine industry standard, but like everything, they may eventually need some attention. The Racor 500, 900 and 1000 models are quite easy to rebuild and Parker/Racor has the rebuild kits available for a reasonable price.

This project takes about 25-30 minutes to complete and once done your Racor will be as good as new.

I always love your post! I just replaced my Racor filter assembly before I saw your
rebuilding presentation. This is the exact filter I had in my boat and when I went
to purchase a new one, I was informed that this unit should be replace by the MA500,
which meets Coast Guard requirements. The only difference in the two was the color of the unit, the heat deflector shield, and bottom drain plug which is metal instead of plastic. I was told the reason for this modification was that the heat shield would delay ignition in case of a fire. I would say if you had a fire large enough
to melt that bowl you are definitely in trouble. Thank again for your informative
presentations.
