Chose The Right Gasket

If you buy an OEM impeller directly from Yanmar, Westerbeke or Universal, to name a few, they usually come with the right gasket. If your impeller came with more than one gasket chose the right one by matching it to your cover plate or o-ring groove.

Hi,
I've discovered your web site from a french sailboat web site. Nice and interesting !
What I do, when changing my impeller is to fully grease it with silicon grease to prevent rubber corrosion and avoid troubles if I eventually forgot to open the raw water seacock.
Best regards from France,
Philippe

Paper bag as gasket
I made a couple of gaskets from a paper bag since my supplier had none in stock:
1. Draw the contours of an original gasket on the bag, e.g. with a pencil.
2. Cut the lines on the bag with a sharp knife.
This way you never run out of gaskets.

Universal 5411 has a keyway and key and we're having a heck of a time getting the new impeller lined up with the key. The key keeps slipping to the back of the slot and blocking the impeller from going in all the way. Is there a trick for this? I thought of gluing the key in place with some low-strength Lock-tite, but.... I don't know.
