Bed-it Marine Sealant Tape:
After hundreds of requests for a high quality marine grade butyl tape I finally, through months and months of testing, landed on a tremendous formulation. Due to EPA regulation the good stuff from 30-40 years ago is long gone. To try and find a tape to survive the long term in the marine environment was not an easy task and took months of testing. After months and months going back and forth with my lab we finally landed on one. Bed-It Tape is gray in color, 1/16" thick and 1/2" wide and comes in a 50' roll. It is the perfect consistency & width for bedding deck hardware.
This is NOT the stuff you get from an RV supplier at all. This is closer, only a better quality because I was able to test specifically for a marine application, to what was used by boat builders back when they used to take the time to use a good quality butyl tape.
All the proceeds from the sale of Bed-It Tape get rolled back into the free "How To" articles posted on my site.
For those of you who expressed interest I would suggest ordering multiple rolls. For larger orders I am using USPS flat rate boxes in order to avoid multiple shipping quotes and multiple emails back and forth. I still have another job so this will all be done in my spare time.
Please be patient. I will ship as fast as I can and reply to inquiries as soon as possible as I want you to be a happy customer! Normally I ship out within 24 hours M-F and I even occasionally ship out on Saturdays.
For shipping I use USPS Priority Mail shipping most often using the flat rate boxes. Orders arrive in 1-3 days depending upon the zone. USA shipping is $11.80 for up to six rolls.
Clearly shipping one roll for $11.80 is not as good a deal as two, three or four rolls for $11.80. Flat rate gets to be an excellent deal the more rolls you buy!
The price per roll is $17.95 for a 50' roll
I am only accepting payments through PayPal but you can use your credit card, even if you don't have a PayPal account.
PLEASE include your name, shipping address and how many rolls you would like. Use the PayPal button and quantity drop down below for ordering.
UPDATE: 3/21/2014 - Always on the march to make Bed-It Tape the absolute best product it can be I made a change to the release paper I was using. I spent a good deal of time and money to come up with the best release paper I could for use with Bed-It Tape. The new release paper is white and is a significant upgrade from the old release paper. Even multiple years out Bed-It should still peel away cleanly.
ABOUT BED-IT TAPE:
Bed-It Tape is specifically formulated and extruded for the installation of deck fittings to the decks of boats. All aspects of the installation procedure and necessary formulation requirements have been brought together in a marine specific bedding tape.
It has been designed to:
*Work across wide temperature ranges with minimal "creep" or cold flow even in hot climates
*Formulated to have exceptional tolerance to withstand slight movement between deck and fitting
*Stand up to typical boat washing chemicals
*Stick to the parts not your fingers
*Have the proper density for use in a "compression" application.
*Have right density to allow it to displace from under the fitting in a reasonable time frame
Bed-It Tape is made only from the finest materials and has been designed to exceed the quality of pre EPA tapes that have lasted for 30+ years..
Bed-It Tape is not an RV, Masonsry, HVAC or glazing product it was specifically formulated for use in bedding deck hardware.
Bed-It Tape is made in the USA with US labor and creates US jobs!!
Stuck To Knife
So how flexible & sticky is this Bed-it Tape? I stuck a very small tab to the end of a heavy stainless steel kitchen knife...
Stuck To Cabinet
I then let gravity go to work..
As you can see the butyl sticks to both surfaces tenaciously and simply stretches without failure. This is a LOT more movement than you would ever see in a piece of deck hardware.
And still stretching and no failure...
This sub 2" long piece stretched all the way to the counter.
And down for the count, and still the Bed-It Tape did not fail. Remember this tape is non-curing, non-hardening and does not lose it's stickyness or ability to stretch. How about those tube caulks? Think they have anywhere near this much elasticity?
No, It Does Not Stretch Like Bed-It Tape
This is barely 1/16th of an inch of movement and the factory bedding compound, a polyurethane tube caulk, has already failed. This boat was less than three years old! Food for thought.
