About / Member ABYC

Hi All,

My name is RC Collins and I am an independent "ABYC Certified Marine Electrical Systems Specialist". That and 2¢ will buy you a gumball. The meat on the bones is if you like my articles. That is all that really matters. "Independent" simply means I work for myself, not a boat yard. This allows me to charge my customers less and give them a good job for the money. Many may know me as "Maine Sail" on the various sailing, cruising and boating forums but I am also Compass Marine / RC or Rod.

I publish this site in my spare time for DIY boaters to try and keep the sport as affordable as possible. I have seen too many people lose their boat because they simply can't afford to keep it or pay a yard to maintain it.

My writings may be injected with some strong opinions but I always try to back up where they come from or stem from. I always try to keep my articles as close to current accepted safety standards as possible, because, well, it just makes sense to work on your boat safely.

This site is fully supported by the few items I sell like, Bed-It Butyl Tape, Victron Battery Monitors and some other items, as well as reader donations. These donations, & purchases, help to pay for these articles and much of the material going into them. This site grows through reader support!

If you don't like it, no problem, take what you want from it. If you do enjoy the site feel free to support its growth via a donation or by purchasing the products I do sell here.

Currently I am saving for a new web site. I have learned the hard way that web development is expensive and I am simply NOT very good at it. If anyone out there can help with this please get in touch with me.

As I always say "Don't just take my word for it.". My site is but ONE source among hundreds or thousands of other informational sources. Always do your homework, weigh all the options, then decide what will work best for you & your boat.

I hope you enjoy the site.

Thanks,

RC Collins
