Everything works in this, my favorite portrait in these galleries. The green and red colors, the shape of the clothes and the shape of the rocks, the warmth of his expressive face, all present the man as you knew him -- confident, kind, and humorous. The only thing I would have added would have been his folded arms -- they are implied here, but I think they would have strengthened the sense of confidence if included in the bottom of your frame.
