This photo, taken on day four of a five day hike in
South Eastern Australia, is at first incongruous, the
bright and obviously man made fibres of the clothing
contrasting strongly with the earthy greens of the
landscape and the pure blue and white of the sky.
Obviously manmade objects in a purely natural scene.
But then we put ourselves in the pants and socks of
the subjects and relate to the obvious human values.
We feel the relief of feet freed from the confines of
boots, enjoy watching the breeze rippling the pristine
water of the glacial tarn and enjoy the feeling of
freedom that comes from the the feeling of that same,
fresh breeze on our face. All very human emotions.
Lastly, we feel the human value of comradeship as we
imagine our mate sitting next to us. This connection
between the viewer and the photo is made possible
thanks to the absraction of only including the legs
and feet of the people and so allowing the viewer to
imagine themselves as the owners of one of the sets of
legs.
