Hello Darrick
Yes that's very true. Also many people only think, and have been led to think, that Vikings were total barbarians...and yes many were fearless seamen and that's a hard life. They explored much of the Mediterranean, down the coast of Africa as well. They were mainly traders and very good ones. Probably there were some rough bunches thrown in as well as with any group. I believe Russia has a great deal of influence from the Vikings as well as so many other areas. Although I am only 1/2 Scandinavian descent (and the other 1/2 is from another country from which another may have sailed to America before Columbus (Brenden the Navigator)) Wow you've traced your lineage back quite a ways...since my Grandfather came from a sparsely populated area there are not many records. Thanks much for the comments. The most beautiful ship in the world to me, is a Viking Long Boat...and from what I understand one of the most efficient designs ever made.

Barri, you most certainly have the tell tale Viking features in your face.I myself am a descendant of Eric the Red.My family tree as far as my Grandmother had it traced was back to 980-1000,the tenth centurty,I feel anyone 1 of us with Viking ancestory shoulc be so damn proud of our for forefathers,as well we shuold and can do everytihng in our power finally have them rewrite our history of bieng the first to discover North America 500 years before Columbis.I really am pumped about a message board like this where we can speak our minds .. Thank you Darrick Drouillard

I have a picture of his brother that I will try and resurrect. It was taken in the lower French alps in 1975 but I think I have scanned it. Let me look...

Hello Jeanne
Yes The Emperor thought scares me lots, but I do think in regarding Ira's information, that Britney Spears would do better at the UN than the current appointee.

I'm with Mattias - this image rocks! And yes, I loved the dialogue going on here as well...Ira? "Emperor" Cheney? Now THERE'S a frightening thought!!
Barri Olson10-Jan-2005 01:49
Thanks much Mattias
Yes I do have ancestors from Scandanavia...2 of my grandparents. My grandfather came from the Toten area of Norway...and thanks for the beer offer too. Yeah the Vikings were a bit of mischief...ha. I enjoy your pictures very much.

Wow! This one rocks! My Icelandic is a bit rusty, so I won't bother to try to write a comment in that language. If you ever get to Sweden, the beer's on me (and the beard is on you :) ). I've got a feeling you've got ancestors from the Nordic countries. If it'd been Denmark, your last name probably would have been spelled "Olsen". So it might be Swedish or Norwegian. Either way, you look like a Viking, and Vikings were cool although the did some bad things. Cheers!

Hi Matias
Right on the update :-). Yes in 2009 cellphones can do that, they can start your car, take 10MP photos and do video clips...you can even watch TV on them if you want...and they function as personal music portables. The people I saw watching TV on them all had glasses on, the ones watching while driving at the same time bothered me.

We need to update ourselves like there´s no tomorrow dude. ;-)
Great Idea this picture. I`m delighted with the effect your beard creates on this B&W portrait. Now, seriously, Can a Cell Phone change the TV channel in 2009?
Barri Olson11-Dec-2004 22:42
Yes Matias. I've been trying to get the machine working again to see what is a bit further down the road. If Emperor Cheney is still around or has passed his power to the new Queen "Condy"...I wonder how much of the world is a "democracy" then...and how many people have been killed to make them "free". I will report if I can. I'm just worried if I launch myself into the future and the world is not here? what happens then? If you see no updates on my site for a long time, you will know..hahaa

You`re the man Barri. So earth is still here for 2009? Oh!, right, I did vote for this one.
Barri Olson10-Dec-2004 09:56
LOL. A lot of the former cabinet seem to be having the same problem as Ashcroft.
Guest 09-Dec-2004 03:00
You guys are having way too much fun here. Careful, Ashcroft has a lot of free time on his hands now.
Barri Olson21-Nov-2004 01:49
Ira,
If you should chance to go back to anytime near there, I think you could solve the problem between Norway and Sweden. Forget the Salmon, have them remember how much they love Lutefisk. The other stuff...well from what I saw my hopes are dim.
Guest 20-Nov-2004 14:13
I just came back from 2012. We have failed to liberate Canada. Emperor Cheney blames insurgent polar bears. GWB divorced Laura and married Condelezza Rice. Their first child is named Collin. Freedom tower in NYC has been attacked by the Bahamas so we invaded Peru.

Sweden is now in a bitter struggle with Norway, it appears the Swedes believe that the best way to cook salmon is by poaching while the Norwegians claim baking is best. U.N. Secretary Britney Spears is trying to settle the conflict.

Oprah Winfrey now weighs 3,275 pounds.

but, the most important thing you forgot to tell:
do they found a medicine against humans stupidity then ?
Barri Olson01-Nov-2004 08:36
In 2009 they had reinvented toilet paper, Ford Focuses(what is the plural of that?) and the reasons we were still fighting in Iraq. Digital cameras had been replaced by implants...as well as some other things. Prince Charles was soon to have plastic surgery to correct a hearing problem. Gold was discovered in Ethiopia. Emperor Dick Cheney had launced a pre-emptive limited Nuclear Strike against the Bahamas. Robotic vacumn cleaners now had clean-cat (and dog) grooming attachments, so that when you were gone...and cell phones could now do laundry with microwave cleaning. I'm glad to be back. I'll report on my further adventures, maybe bring back a few photos sometime.

glad you are back from the future - tell me, how was it in june 2009 ? ;-)
