View Toward the Orpheum Theater

From a parking ramp
In school we had to carry this camera around, all over the downtown area for a few hours a day. There were 3 of us, one would carry the camera, one of us the large wooden tripod, and the other the film. We would trade off when one would get tired. We would set up our shots (seemed like it took 1/2 an hour to focus), then tear it all down and move on. We did this quite a few days. Those cameras take extremely high quality pics, but sure give a person an appreciation of what old time photographers went through.

Very Big and Heavy Camera, a large format 8X10

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Wow, all the straight lines and edges. Nice BW work.

You have to love that Orpheum sign. It is just cool. Hope they never take it down. Adds so much to photos looking down upper state street too.

Hey Tom
Yeah you sure had to plan your shots with these, made you think about what you were doing, amd no "hand held" LOL. Take Superman to hand hold one of these. We had a lot of fun. Take the exposure then back to the darkroom...man it sure was different adjusting an exposure by blocking the enlarger with a thumb, or making an "O" out of thumb and finger to burn in a high. Alot different than photoshop for sure but much to be said for it all. Thanks.

Oh Man,
Does this bring back good memories. I had a few old view cams way back in more prosperous times, when a dime was worth a dollar. It was easy to find boxes of sheet
film around, and I kept the shelves pretty empty. Those long rails, and tilting backs sure make for great perspective corrections. Can't get the same look useing PS as you do inside those things. It's the truth about wearing you out, but I'd love to have one more day in the sun with one. Good shot, and great memory.
Thanks for sharing,
tom

Thanks Vinay, and thanks for looking, I took this very long time ago and with a very large camera we had at school (can't remember but think it was large format) We had the assignment of carrying it around all day, we took turns and were very tired with the whieght of it. Thank you for looking
