Over 5000 runners participated in the 30th running of Stratton Faxon New Haven 20K and 5K Labor Day road race. The 20K runners competed for the United States title. A cool day and light wind favored fast times, although no records were set.
The men's and women's 20K winners were Dan Browne (59:19) of Portland, Ore. and Alicia Shay (1:06:56) of Flagstaff, Ariz. Browne, a 2004 Olympian, also won in 2001 and 2002.
The 5K men's winner was Donn Cabral, a Glastonbuy, Conn. high school student and New England cross company champion. First among the women was Kathy Fleming of Natick, Mass. Second place went to Yemisi Damisah, a second year student at Yale School of Medicine. She will run the 800m in the 2008 Olympics for Nigeria.
