In 1971, my wife, Janet (Juanita) and I (Terry), were among the very first foreigners to ever rent and live in Castellar. At the time, Bar la Espiga was owned an operated by Andres, a man of about 30 years old who had been badly afflicted by polio. He introduced us to the "vecinos" who later became our friends and castle family. Others of the earliest "hippies" we introduced to rent other houses inside the castle were: JoAnn and Arnold (writers for the Iberian Sun), Wendy Love (exwife of Mike Love, the Beach Boys, and a humanist counselor), Michael (a London writer), Antonio (painter from Mallorca). That was to total of our number with approximately a dozen residents including the Aviles family, decendents of the "Guardia" for the Medinaceli family. They were Juana, Maria, Miguel & another brother who never married and lived with their parents. The Duke Medinaceli entertained us in his home and gave us his blessing to continue living there at the time. So many of the memories and stories from our lives in Castellar remain among the very best for beauty and joy as we now approach a time when they might die with us. If you please, I would be very interested to learn about your life in my old home. Most sincerely, Jon (professor Terry [cognac] "el acaldito")

Me encanta.
