Whisper Lite, Model 9 And Model G MSR " Business Ends "

Whisperlite is far upper left and not as good as other two , which were pre XGK MSR stoves., Middle stove is a 1973 Model 9 with a " Crimped Burner Bell, short legs for pots, and short flint striker stem. Not Model G ( which stood for Gas ) which was smooth bell, improved longer legs, and a longer flint striker stem. Pumps are the weak link in MSR stoves, and be sure to lub them up before a trip and bring extra o-rings,parts kit.. For their weight,, they are still the best in the business out melting a large amount of snow in a light packagable package..

Hmmm - After all these years I learn the truth (due to the internet). My MSR stove is a "Model G" Model rather than a "Model 9"!. Saw one on a hike with fellow students at Oregon State in about 1975 and "had to have one, and bought it in downtown Corvallis. Absolutely reliable for many many years. The Yellow Pump died from several years of non-use. Made the mistake of trading it in to MSR for a discount on a new pump - stove does not look the same naow - AND - I am smart enough now to have fixed the Yellow Pump. Thanks for the pictures and history lesson - Mike - Leavenworth KS (outside the walls)
