Beautiful pictures, I always enjoy the architecture of old barns and farm houses...Thanks for sharing your gorgeous Photographs...
Great stuff Monte...nice variety of subjects...it is a joy to behold. I have an interest in old mining towns and frontier history, but I appriciate your passion for laying out the good with the almost good...your good stuff rules!
Thanks Phil!! She is a keeper for sure. ; )
Monty, your the man! Ansel Adams with a flair for beards. That Pat looks like a keeper. We need to find out more about Marion Rose, the infamous rattlesnake man from Alta Lake. Last I heard (only legend) he was bitten
Seven times in one day and it hardly phased him.
Thank you very much for visiting my galleries, I am impressed with yours and enjoying exploring them very much!
great pics, great hobby in your old age.
mr dodge, how are you? cool site. i just wanted to say that i have acquired an old jansport backpack. i believe it . is a d3? i have hitchhiked and camped with it for the last year.it looks like the one you have in one of your pics, the one showing a blue pack sitting on snowy ground. i am very pleased with this pack! just wondering how you liked your d3? as soon as i figure out how to post a pic i will send you a pic if your interested.
Monte: I have you marked as a "favorite" and I love cruzing around in your galleries. It looks like you live "the good life." And that Patty looks like a good one to share it with. Keep up the good work!

Very well done Monte.....Thanks for visiting my little corner of pbase and leaving a comment.
Ever hear the story of these guys that climbed Mt. Rainer and one was breathing so hard that he sunburned his tongue? Or that both ended up looking like reverse racoons at sunburned guys wedding?
Very impressed with your work. Just added you to my favorites. Keep up the great work!
Greetings, visited liberty for the first time yesterday 01/07/2012 and will defiantly go back. My friend Tina found you on the web and we were wondering where your Dodge family came from email me if you get a change. Like your photos
i recently aquired an old JANSPORT backpack, external frame, it has a map pouch on the back side. it is blue. resembles the one in your pic with the snow shovel. it is all aluminum frame with aluminum bat wings(?) ijs this a D3? thanks for your help. COOLEST SITE EVER!
Thanks for your wonderful pictures. Very inspiring. We've been sending people your way from our humble little hiking website tmber.com
The plant with the purple berries is a poke berry plant. Some people cook the leaves like turnip greens, but it has to be prepared right. Otherwise, it will make you sick. The berries are the favorite berry of the mockingbird in TX, but the "Bi-product" is like a MarksALot. Great pictures...Woody
MONTE DODGE!!! This is your old friend Missy Wood who surely hasn't forgotten you!! You were such a great friend to me when I was living in Olympia!! Your friendship meant more to me than I can possibly say!
I have some of my old car and grain elevator shots on my Facebook page. I LOVE your pictures!! I'm living in St. Peter, MN, close to the old Victorian house on a lake that I always talked about..
As always, Missy
I have a 1958 coleman lantern, army issue and still in the box with all of its contents. This thing is great! I am not interested in selling it, but I am dying to use it. Should I keep this gem in its current state? What is it worth?
I seen on one of your posts that someone was looking for a morning glory northface tent. I am pretty sure I have one. If anyone is interested you can e-mail me at email@example.com and I will get you pictures.
My name is Steve Wilson. My father is Thomas Woodrow Wilson, who was the son of Andrew Wilson, stone cutter and manager of Hercules Sandstone. It was nice to come across the picture of Grandpa in your gallery. I was at my parents home last night with a laptop and was sitting with my dad (age 92 ...sharp as a tack)..looking for old pictures of Tenino. He loved it. Thanks for all your great photos.

Hey Monte, Great Collection of "Vintage" stoves etc. I've been collecting & continue to use many of my 70's vintage and a few prior to then stoves and gear. Great reference collection, and pics. I'll have to take a more thorough gander now that I've "registered" and see some of your Rockie Mtn. Shots. I'm also a long time hiker of the Rockies, mostly Utah, CO, WY... but the High Mtns is where its best. Thanks for the post and pics...
Monte, great shots from ADZPCTKO2010! Great to meet you and preview shots at Mt Laguna! Didn't you get the Anderson Angel? Didn't find it in your gallery

Not to mention you take beautiful photographs!

We've been collecting wooden-handled ice-axes on e-bay for the past five years. We now have about 15. All have markings, brands, countries, etc on metal axe portion, but there does not seem to be any info on the net or elsewhere about when, and made the axes. (Most are made in Switzerland, or Austria. Anyone seen any info old ice ax manufacturers.?
Are you know of the jansport kingdome tent? Made in the 80's?
I would like to get one!
Good stuff in here Monte
What a great collection of photos. Of course, I am curious about the ones you took at cider & doughnut days.

Hey Monte, Don't know if you remember, but I met you randomly on the PCT in the Northern Cascades in 06. Been checking your photo gallery out for a while. I'm also into photography and have a shitload of photos I'm increasingly having to organize. What's your thoughts on Pbase... Do you make any money on pics. Is it more of a hobby. I also am in the market for a new camera this Summer. Something small and powerful. What's the latest badass camera on the market these days. I have a nice Panasonic 7megp. camera now and I like Panasonics.
I was looking for Wenatchee apple trees and stumbled upon your art gallery! I paint old barns and rustic buildings for fun...I loved the old ones you have posted and have seen a couple of them in my wanderings. Thanks for sharing! www.paulafrederick.com gallery located at the Cashmere Cider Mill. Stop by sometime and say hello!

Amazing! I loved old Coleman equipment when we camped as a family from the 40s to 60s. Some of the stuff my parents used holds memories. 1)My dad starting up the 2 mantle lantern by keeping a wooden match in the "cleaner" as he lit it while quickly rotating the "flu" or whatever it was. 2)Mom baking a cake in the collapsible oven over the Coleman 2 burner...and Yes, I salvaged it from the family home when they passed on.
Thanks for the Memories!
Monte, the echoes of greatness eminate from your incredible photos. You are a true and solid fixture in the halls of the ancient ones; those who walked upon the path when it was but a thin unknown line on a map. Your smile is infectious and I wear it now, today, here, and forever.
Monte! Thanks for your kind comments on my galleries! _raj

I really enjoy your galleries. Washington State is beautiful. I worked for ISC Systems in the 80's and our corporate headquarters were in Spokane. I had the good fortune of seeing the beauty of Washington in all 4 seasons. My job sent me to Spokane about 3 months per year. On weekends a group of us would go to Mt. Spokane, Weenachee, Ross Lake, Cascades, Canada. I would jump on highway 2 and just go... I loved it. I could easily make Washington my home.
Thank you very much for visiting my galleries.
It's been a pleasure sharing our rides to work on the bus, and best of all to get to know you and enjoy your perspective. You've captured some great images of your world, thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
Hey Monte and Terri...
Thanks for the great pictures from the Swallow Fest this weekend. I introduced myself to you both....you took pictures of our tractors that we had in the parade. We took first place, what a gas. Anyway, thanks again...

After all these years of talking to Mark and Barbi about you, it was really great to actually meet you in person at your mom and dad's "50th ann" party (the photo DVD was great!). I have been wandering through your galleries and getting swept away by the beauty you have captured with your lenses. Your family photos are touching, your nature shots are simply stunning, and, having heard about your PCT adventure for the last 20 years, it was very cool to be able to get the visuals to bring all the stories together. Thanks for sharing! Maybe we can see you again when we actually have time to chat. Take care, and we'll watch for future galleries to be posted. Until then, be well--Kathy Lycan

One of the best photo collections here.
As usual, your photos amaze me in their simplicity, compostion, and depth. I find myself constantly looking for more views into "The Life of Monte". You will reach a million views soon!
Hands down - the best variety, creative, artistic, historical, and just plain fun - collection I have seen! Feels like thumbing through an old pile of National Geographics. Favorites - the beard collection and the photos of the past. Your old summit shots are soooo cool! I will be back for more...

Hello Monte.. I was browsing galleries tonight and found pictures of Stehekin.. ..it brought back fond memories of when i was a kid. I always wanted to live in Stehekin..!! Had to do a double-take as you don't hear much about Stehekin unless you're a Washingtonian!! Your pictures are wonderful..!!
Marco "The German" from work
Nice pictures Monte. See you at work.
Thank you for kind comments on some of my pictures. I enjoyed your galleries very much. Hugs Kasia
Just came across your galleries and wished to say hello. I live in Yakima and recently took the plunge into digital SLR with a Canon Rebel and the kit lenses. Then talked my wife into letting me indulge in the 24-105 f/4L. Still at the lower end of the learning curve but having a blast. Adding my own galleries as time allows and see we have very similiar interest. Nice living here in the Northwest!!

I want to thank you for your visit in my galeries. I appreciate it a lot. I am always using a 35mm camera. My wife has a nice little digital camera, Kodak Share C330, I used it once. I like it but I prefer my old cameras. I like them a lot.
Have a nice weekend!
Thanks for stopping by my gallery.. like your shot of Mt Saint Helen. I will be up in Washington in August.
Hi, Monte! Thanks for your comments on my galleries. From your splendid galleries I specially liked your "Barns, Farms...." collection; and don't worry, next time I update my "Old LP..." you will see Jethro Tull (Stand up, Aqualung, Living in the past...); the great band of a genius (Iam Anderson).
Your photos are certainly refreshing. Can't say pbase has any thing quite like it.
Nice and thought filled site you`ve got here!...
Thank you for your comment on my Ghost Towns gallery, I see you also enjoy Ghost Towns. Have fun with that 5D.
It's hard to put an adjective (or even several) to accurate depict your pictures. So I will just say what others have said. Good stuff!

the guys at the classic camp stove site have been waiting for you to come out of that
snow cave and share some more adventures and photos---
Howdy, Monte. Alan Wenker recently posted a link to your site on the Classic Camp Stoves site. You've been busy! Drop a line over at the stove site again one of these days.
It's been a good ski year for a change. My little Nordic group has managed to get out 12 times so far...
Hi Monte--Thanks for sharing your comment in my gallery. I didn't realize we were neighbors. Speaking of that--is Wacanda Pass near us anyplace? I love that old building and would kill to explore it someday. I also need to agree about your "fake film" comments. I still shoot the old wooden film cameras and am afraid someday soon I may be forced to go total digital.
By the way--I wish we could vote on "profile comments"--I didn't read yours the first time but your comment about yourself is the best.
Keep it up and if you are ever in the Spokane area looking for something to shoot give me a holler--not sure why as I usually leave this place to shoot but you never know.
Hi Monte- We really enjoyed you and your camera at the cascade Quest sleddog race thanks for all the great pictures and time that we talked. Looking forward to seeing you next year. Monta and Christina

These Pictures are wonderful. One of my favorites is BOOTS ON FENCE. I think youre moving up in the ranks. Now you must at least 13,520. Personally I think you should be ranked it the top 10. I love you.
Really great pictures. I like Farmers Window.
My favorite picture is the winter wonderland with the orange accents. I'm a big fan of your work. He He. Digital photography class is going well. We are doing the usual: black and white, blur, cut and paste, and touch ups. I hope you are having fun in wenatche. I had a question. How fast does a train go? I love you lots and lots.
Good job! Lots of hits, and great photos! Please keep us wondering what great shot you'll show us next. I liked the sepia Monte'nomah Falls shot!
Your pictures are very cool. I really love the Bigfoot one, thank god you don't have any of me during that time. I forwarded them on to Mom & Carl also.
Do you ever come down this part of California? If so you better drop by and see everybody!
Greg "the other moron" Hummel
What a goddamn moron! Don't you have anything better to do than trapse around taking beautiful pictures of beautiful areas and then shoving them down our little throats, those of us stuck in smog ridden areas of the U.S.!!
