These pictures are spectacular. This bird lives in my neighborhood in Portland and I have seen it in the tree in my front yard several times over a period of twenty years. I live near Woods Park in southwest Portland. Just heard it again this morning, for the first time since last year. 2/15/10

Love your photos, I have been seeing a very large woodpecker that looks like the Pileated type but much larger? What is the name of this large bird with a 3 to 4 inch long beak and looks to be about 18 inches tall? .
