Three weeks in March 2005 in India, my third trip to that amazing county. I visited two the southest states - Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The itinerary of my trip was Cochin - Madurai - Thanjavur - Trichy - Tiruchendur - Kanyakumari - Trivandrum - Varkala - Alleppey - Cochin. I was quite busy... I have never take so many pictures in my life.
and the south is different than the central India - definitely more relaxed, less frantic...

I lived in South India as a child and teen, seeing your pics is like taking a trip back . I am going back after ten years of absence. Your lens seeks out the very essence, sometimes viscerally, of what South India is. Absolutely remarkable !

I traveled in India for two months back in 1978. Kerala state was my favorite. It was beautiful. Palm trees everywhere! The people seemed a lot more content than in other areas of India. I particulary loved the waterways in Cochin, Allepey. If I ever travel to India again, I would love to go to Kerala again.

Very nice! Quick question (apologies if already asked) - when approaching your subjects, do you offer them anything? Money - if so about what value? and do you get their names/addresses and ever send them a print? I love pics of people, but always feel a bit uncomfortable asking for their portrait - wondering how you approach it. cheers, Hunky

You are a great photographer, no doubt. You have talent and you have an eye. However, the place is horrible. The tragedy of these people is what hits me. Poverty is all over the place as these people live in conditions you would never want to see in your native Poland. By the way, it is a great destination with wonderful history and landscapes. The problem I have with your country and that part of the world is the weather - too cold and too rainy. Otherwise, I love the Baltic Sea and the Tatras.

Maciek, here's how I see it. You are deifinitely advancing in your photographic quest! This latest work is layered - so the old Maciek can still throw in a cute child portrait and so on...But I see you searching further, stretching the edges of the frame and trying to position your subjects with stronger purpose (echoes of Alex Webb...?) Example - here are the pics I like the best, and they've received hardly any comment - "Take a picture of her", "Fishing nets...", "Run", "Nap", "Head in the gate" and by the way "Black umbrella" is superb! I hope this is encouraging news to you. Cheers, Francis.

Dear Maciek, again to India, the country really captivates your spirit, doesn't it. I went through your gallery and found it quite different from your other India galleries, you are obviously experimenting, learning, trying out different things. But I concur with other people, do not forget to enjoy yourself as well when you are travelling - Photographs are only one way to look at a country, and in India it seems all your senses are needed. By the way, I am going to do a trip to South Ethiopia for 2.5 weeks in September and am looking for people to share the costs of jeep + guide. Leaving date in Addis would be September 3-4.

Hi Maciek, Contrary to one person's comment, I think your gallery this time is the best you have for India. Why? Each picture tells a story. The context is well-played and the faces of the people compliment the context (and vice versa). You are one of the best photographers I've known. I agree with one comment though: relax a little. THAT GOES FOR ME TOO. In Boracay, all I did was wake up early and get back to the hotel late. I am not relaxing as much as I need to. Anyway,going back to your pictures, I think you have proven yourself on tight portraits. It is but right for you to explore other styles (something that I need to do). You have the spirit, the enthusiasm, and the energy. Go for it! One of these days...when you become famous, remember me. You and Claude (along with Zandra in TL are my mentors). Manny

hi sander, thanks for you honest opinion, I appreciate it, honestly. I know some people might not like my newest pictures, I didn't shot this time many portraits, smiling faces, in fact many times I was waiting for a moment when people didn't look at my camera.. I was looking for sth else, I was trying to get into people's life, show some street scenes, small things, details... To be honest, I am quite pleased with some photos. I hope you will find at lest few photos you like, I have lots of pictures to share with you

Maciek, I've always enjoyed your other galleries very much (especially India, Cambodia and Vietnam). You are great at portraying people and children but with this new trip to India, I somehow feel disappointed. You seem to try to tell us a story with every new pic but in my opinion, you just failed. Those pictures say nothing to me, there is not inspiration, a lack of feelings.... I think you are too obsessed with photography, trying to catch everything... you should relax a little... or stick to portraits....and never stop to learn... you have the talent, don't waste it...
