On 17th December 2003 the Mirage 3 was retired from the Swiss Air Force inventory. There was an official farewell ceremony held on Dübendorf airbase near Zurich. Herbert and I drove from the Netherlands to Switzerland; our goal was to take photographs from the last Swiss Mirages before they stopped operations.

The first three pictures in this gallery I took from outside the base and they were taken one day before the official ceremony on Wednesday. This was the last opportunity to take pictures of these black and white Mirage aircraft landing on Dübendorf. One day later they would only take off from Dübendorf and after the ceremony fly directly to Stans Buochs for storage.

On Wednesday we were in the possibility to attend the farewell ceremony and most images in this gallery I took there. Mirage R-2118 "Mata-hari" came back to Dübendorf and was handed over to the Aviation Museum after shutting down the engine.
