We were fortunate recently to be able once again to spend nearly a week with friends at their Lake of the Woods cottage near Kenora, Ontario. It was quite an experience--very relaxing, amidst much solitude, greenery, and wildlife. Straddling the borders of two Canadian provinces (Manitoba and Ontario) and one US state (Minnesota), the lake itself is impressive in size, measuring approximately 68 mi (109 km) by 59 mi (95 km) It has 14,552 islands, and a shoreline of 25,000 mi (40,000 km, 65,000 mi (105,000 km) if you include the islands.
