Lissajous Figures

All images in this gallery are straight-out-of-the-camera JPEGs. No software or electronic devices were used
to create them, although they were sharpened a bit. Want to guess how they were done? Please do.
I will reveal all once somebody guesses correctly.

I first did some of these in the early 1960s, on transparency (35mm slide) film.
I spent a lot of money on film and processing, getting all the settings right back then,
and I've been meaning to re-create some ever since I went digital about a dozen years ago.
Now it costs nothing but a bit of time to figure out the details.

Oh, I certainly did give you credit for being close, Mike. But really...this isn't horseshoes. Close doesn't count....oh, wait, it does in horseshoes!...but you know what I mean :-) Congrats to you and Glenn.

Heck no. The reason I put it out there was to encourage others--just like you with your 3 million candle-watt flashlight. Mine only has one small bulb :-)

ok then swing some nice little flashlights with gels over them on some fixed rig the keeps it a flat image.......

NOPE. You can do it with an oscilloscope, but these images used no electronic equipment (well, except what's in a camera).

This is cool and if you tried this in the 60's it would have to been with incandescent light and filters, and to make patterns of this type you would need a spirolgraph.....putting it all together would be a challenge......well done braVo Mike
