St Peter's Churchyard is divided into three distinct sections.
This is the first section that most people who visit see first and is
where the people of wealth and/or influence were buried.
Many of the tombs here are covered with an iron slab showing their
connection with the Ironworks.
At the front is the entrance to the Hill family vault. To the right
of this is the place where Samuel Hopkins was buried. Immediately
behind this the table tomb of Thomas Deakin who was the mine agent
for the company. Inscribed on his tomb, but now barely readable as
"Beneath the rocks I used to toil for bread.
Beneath this rock I rest my weary head"
