Nairobi, May 24, 2009

A special day today - Jamie's birthday! And, what better way than to spend it with friends? Kennedy picked us up from the hotel at 10:30 and we set out to Sarah's school, Kenya High School for a special visit. Nyiva was home from school for the weekend too, and Val came with us as well, so it truly was a 'family' day. After visiting Sarah, we went back to Kennedy & Val's house for a special birthday lunch for Jamie - even though we had barely just eaten breakfast, we did the meal justice. Following a wonderful cake that one of their relatives made for Jamie, we drove out past Athi River to Nyiva's school to drop her off. There was major construction on the highway (that's the Mombassa Road) so we opted to take a 'short-cut' through what could only be called a gravel pit. What fun that was!
Back in Nairobi, we met Daniel and his family at the Carnivore for yet another celebration, and another cake for Jamie.
