Illegal intimidation

2 August 2004

104.
Somewhere behind this illegal and unwelcome sign is a small wood that by no stretch of the imagination could be described as being part of a garden. Somewhere inside this small wood is the remains of the 16th century towerhouse that stands close to an earlier structure known as the Wallace Tower, Auchterhouse was once a possession of the Ogilvies. Now it is in the possession of some people who apparently are unaware of the law. This photograph, along with a detailed description of the location has been sent to Angus District Council's Planning Department with a request that they take action to have the obstructions (barbed wire and padlocks on the gates) and intimidatory signs (no trespassing and beware of the dog) removed. CLICK HERE to view map. CLICK HERE to see Scotland's extremely enlightened Outdoor Access Code. It is one excellent law that we must ensure is fully enforced at all times.

ahhhhhh, friendly people... It always warms my heart to see such inviting signage.

What an ugly sign, with an ugly sentiment. Are these people new, or from out of town? It's one thing to want to be left alone, but this is really crass. And I do wish we had that kind of law here; long live the land of the free! America is quite territorial; ironic, is it not?

Like this in B/W, as if there was no debate. Interesting law.

Good on you, Stewart. It's amazing how much rights of land have been relenquished through landowning intimidation. I think I'm right in thinking that the sign is in fact meaningless; trespass occasioning damages thereby can only be acquired through the civil courts whereas prosecution is criminal. Also, I think that to trespass there has to be continuous use of the land. Might be wrong here, but the intention is clearly to deny common rights. Good luck with this.

How about changing the sign to "Prosecuters will be violated?"

Boy I love that law of yours ... I want that law here too.
