Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that last night my dog was attacked at Lakeshore Park, in the Bearden area of Knoxville, TN.
Me and Abby had taken Kenai for a walk in the nice weather. We were walking in the parking lot to return to our car when another dog owner arrived and as he turned to lock his car his dog charged us.
His dog was on a long retractable leash and he didn't notice that the dog was coming towards us. HE DIDN"T HAVE CONTROL OF HIS DOG!
His dog jumped on the back of Kenai and bit her between the shoulder blades (the scruff) and pulled and ripped her skin from shoulder to shoulder and down her back six inches. Basically she was scalped down her back. It all happened, and was over, before I could even lunge towards the other dog
The good news is the wound was just of the skin, she has no puncture wounds in the muscle, nor any organ trauma.
Within 10 minutes of the attack I had her at the UT Vet Hospital. Last night she had surgery to clean and repair the wound. She did well and the drain tube they placed in to drain the wound area isn't showing alot of drainage, which is good! They will probably take the drain tube out today if it dosen't show alot of drainage.
Our next worry is that there may be vascular (blood supply) damage from the trauma of the tearing. This might mean that the skin that was torn and scalped my die. If this happenes Kenai will need skin graphs from her legs to replace the dead skin on her back. I hope and pray that this dosen't happen and that her recovery will be speedy from this point on.
The police were called and Abby stayed in the park to file a report while I rushed Kenai for care. The other dog owner was a real ripe bastard, saying I threatened him and my dog provoked the attack. The police did see that the other dog had recent tags. Animal control will be called today to investigate the man and his dog and they can check to make sure the dog is up to date with it's vet and to make sure that the dog doesn't have a history of prior attacks. If it does I will make sure it is put down so that this won't happen to anyone else family member. If it dosen't it will be marked with strike one!
THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS ONLY BAD OWNERS!
She is going to need round the clock wound care for the next few weeks. So if you are waiting on images from recent shoots I am sorry to say that every thing is going to be pushed back a few weeks. Please understand that Kenai is like my child and we are VERY attached so I am freaking out right now and my sole focus will be on getting her healthy and simply nothing else matters till she is healthy.
Please put Kenai in your thoughts and prayers.
