Madeira is a portuguese archipelago in the north atlantic ocean, at about 860 km SW of the mainland, some 650 km off coast Africa, and between Canary islands and Europe. It consists of Madeira and Porto Santo islands. Madeira island is known as the Pearl of the Atlantic, the floating garden.
